Thanks for the fun fact! It must have been nice to get to change it up a bit for a character he’s played for so long. That is heart wrenching with aging Gonzo though.

Fun Fact: Apparently, Dave actually loved the old Gonzo puppet, and got something of a wild joy from being able to play with it and make it even spookier than it already was.

Also, can we just talk about Dave Goelz’ performance in the room 999 scene? The way he puppeteers mirror Gonzo is genuinely unsettling, and his performance as old Gonzo is heart wrenching. It strikes particularly hard, since he’s the last of the original Muppet Show performers to still be actively puppeteering his characters.

Basically, the idea is that the mansion itself wants people to stay, so it manifests in ways that are familiar to the visitor.
